Iraqi Army Preparing for the Final Assault on Al-Ramadi

In May of this year, the Iraqi Army was dealt a devastating blow by the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) at the provincial capital of the Al-‘Anbar Governorate (Al-Ramadi), resulting in a massive withdrawal from the city to the southwestern part of the province.

Two months after conceding city of Al-Ramadi to ISIS, the Iraqi Army and their popular committees struck back against the aforementioned terrorist group, capturing several villages amid the scorching hot temperatures in July and August that made this battle even more complex.

On Monday morning, the Iraqi Armed Forces advanced in the Al-Ramadi countryside after cutting off ISIS’ main supply line last week; this situation allowed for the Iraqi Army to capitalize at the southern perimeter of the city, where the terrorist group has proven most vulnerable.
Earlier today, ISIS launched a counter-assault at the eastern district in order to take the pressure off their fighters trapped in the city-center; however, this attacked was repelled by the Iraqi Army after a four hour long battle.

With ISIS’ back against the wall in Al-Ramadi, the Iraqi Army is in position to launch one last assault to take the city-center and liberate Al-Ramadi from the terrorist group once and for all.
