Kommersant have reported that Syria has begun exporting fruit and vegetables to Russia. This comes as a Russian imposed ban on exporting Turkish foods to the country. The new Syrian deal comes to fill the void left.
Aslan Panesh, General Director of Adyg-Yurak, a company registered in Maykop on the foothills of Russia’s Caucasus region, told reporters from Kommersant that they have begun exporting Syrian fruit and vegetables.
He continues that a shipment comprising of oranges, lemons, grapefruits, tomatoes and cabbage arrived at Novorossiysk last week.

It is expected that Syria will have access to modern packing materials within six months which will allow the country to increase its exportation of fruits claimed Panesh.
“This will enable us to weekly import 3,000-4,000 tonnes of fruit and vegetables. The imports are planned to grow to 5,000 tonnes a week,” he said.
